The City’s waste water plant was originally constructed in 1958,
with an extensive upgrade in 1988 and 2004. The City’s plant was
the first sequential batch reactor
plant
constructed east of the Mississippi and was state of the art when
it was constructed. The plant has a continuous flow rating of 4
million gallons per day, with a peak rating of 9.8 MGD. The plant
has a staff of three operators and has on site labora
tory
facilities. The plant supervisor also serves as the industrial
pretreatment coordinator for the City’s Industrial Pretreatment
Program. The City recently completed $5.1 million dollars worth of
upgrades at the treatment facility. The
Phase
2 upgrades include a new plant head-works withautomation upgrades
and some sewer system rehabilitation work. Pennsylvania Department
of Environmental Protection standards
are maintained daily, thanks to the upgrades and competent staff.
