The City employs a full time Public Works Department with 15 technicians under the direction of the Director of Public Works.  The department provides road maintenance and repair, snow plowing, street sweeping, storm and sanitary sewer maintenance, drinking water supplies,  road sign and traffic signal maintenance, and maintenance and repair of the City’s public facilities and parks.

The Public Works Department also maintains the City’s water and waste water systems. The department has several state of the art maintenance assets, including a sewer cleaner/vacuum truck, a sewer line video inspection unit, and hot tap/line stopping equipment for emergency water line repairs under pressure. The department is the focal point for the City’s recycling program, and provides leaf pick up at curb side in the fall of the year. Refuse collection is provided through the City’s contractor, Tri-County Industries Inc., which provides a customer service hot line at 1-800-457-8202. Curb- side collection is standard, with back door pick up available for the disabled.  Normal daytime operating hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The department boasts a comprehensive equipment fleet with an established capital improvement fund and projected replacement schedule. Some fleet assets include 5 dump trucks, 2 backhoes, 2 skid steer loaders, 1 front end loader, a sewer jet/vacuum truck, a portable self-propelled color video inspection unit, a street sweeper,  a mobile welding truck, and an assortment of pick up trucks, snow plows, and special purpose maintenance equipment. The department has a full time mechanic on staff to keep the fleet in tip-top shape. The mechanic also maintains the City’s emergency vehicle fleet of 5 fire department units and 6 police vehicles.
